Scenarios: Compare Different Plans

Scenarios let you test “what if” questions without changing your base plan. Each scenario stores only its differences from the base. If you update your income or account balances on the base plan, every scenario picks up the change.

Creating a Scenario

On the Retirement tab, open Scenarios and choose New scenario. You can:

Use a Template

Pre-built templates across 5 categories (some apply only to Canada or only to the US):

Timing: Retire 5 Years Earlier, Retire 5 Years Later Spending: Lower Spending, Higher Spending, Lean FIRE, Fat FIRE, Coast FIRE, Barista FIRE Markets: Conservative Markets, Bull Markets, High Inflation Strategy: RRSP Meltdown, Roth Conversions, Delay CPP to 70, Delay OAS to 70, Take CPP at 60, Delay Social Security to 70, Take Social Security at 62 Real Estate: Downsize at 65, Sell & Rent at 65

Create Custom

Enter a name and click Create. Then change any strategy field: retirement age, spending target, withdrawal strategy, return assumptions, government benefit timing, or real estate plans.

What Scenarios Override

Scenarios store strategy fields only. Identity fields are always shared from the base plan:

Shared (from base)Scenario-specific
Country, province/stateRetirement age
Current incomeSpending target
Account balancesWithdrawal strategy
Birth dateMeltdown / conversion toggles
Partner infoReturn assumptions
CPP/OAS / SS claiming ages
Real estate plans
Spending decline settings

If you get a raise and update your income, every scenario uses the new number.
